Research Problems and Purpose Statement

Research problem and purpose statement of BHA FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Research Problem and Purpose Statements are crucial parts of research in identifying the problem and finding the requisite solution for solving it. Likewise, hospital-acquired conditions are usually responsible for causing harm and discomfort to patients. These conditions include a decreased quality of patient care in any healthcare facility that negatively impacts the patient’s health (Shiferaw et al., 2020). Additionally, some patients admitted to the hospital for a few days are more prone to develop pressure sores, especially elderly patients.

Pressure sores are commonly referred to as pressure ulcers. Recent research has shown that these pressure sores can develop into serious medical issues if left untreated. These have been documented to lead to lethal complications such as blood poisoning (Biller-Andorno et al., 2021). According to the statistics, approximately 60,000 people die from this issue annually. Hence, the problem is becoming a major concern, especially for older patients (Shiferaw et al., 2020). Therefore, this paper highlights this hospital-acquired condition and its importance in controlling pressure sores. Simultaneously, a qualitative research technique helps in understanding the root cause of the problem.

It is crucial to strategize sustainable solutions to eradicate the problem. Nonetheless, qualitative data helps in analyzing measurable factors of BHA FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Research Problem and Purpose Statements, such as data gathered through observation or interviews. It is essential to understand the Hospital-acquired medical problems the health facility faces (Shiferaw et al., 2020).

Background of Research Problem

The research problems are established as a strategy. Hence these strategies help to understand the problem and the potential gaps to comprehend. This way, the problems are identified based on their importance, and their possible consequences are considered for the solution. Furthermore, the research problem statement provides directions for future research and the importance of risk management by looking into potential gaps identified through the literature review (Shiferaw et al., 2020). Therefore, the problem statement will establish plans to analyze the BHA FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Research Problem and Purpose Statements & issue of pressure sores among older patients in the hospital.

Pressure sores are a particular problem for patients confined to bed or in the same sitting/laying position for a longer time (Shiferaw et al., 2020). While the research statement will illustrate researched cases and collectively analyze them to accrue the best possible prevention technique.

Evidence-Based Practices to Support Research Problem

It is imperative for nurses to use a systematic and effective way to identify and address an issue using adequate information. Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is an effective way of starting a systematic literature review based on the medical problem to better understand the issue (Getie et al., 2020). Scientific knowledge available on pressure sores can help develop different plans to solve the issues based on past documented research (Afzali Borojeny et al., 2020). Thus, EBP makes it feasible for nurses and healthcare professionals to implement solutions in practical life. Studies have shown that EBP has supported decreasing pressure sores concerns by providing nurses with adequate information regarding the treatment and handling of pressure sores (Getie et al., 2020).

Problem Statement

Pressure sores are a persistent problem in healthcare facilities. Lack of proper knowledge associated with risk factors related to pressure sores and lack of reliable treatment methods have increased the issue. The development of pressure sores causes unnecessary health safety burdens on the patient and the healthcare facility due to the treatment cost it incurs. Recent studies indicated that over 2.5 million people develop pressure sores in healthcare facilities annually (Afzali Borojeny et al., 2020).

The study above also stated that approximately 60,000 patients have the threat of death due to complications caused by pressure sores. Similarly, it has been estimated that pressure sores treatments cost 3.6 million dollars annually, thus putting a more significant burden on the healthcare system and economy (Afzali Borojeny et al., 2020).

The current techniques for pressure sore care direct the nurses to track sore development. Also, no specific policies are available to deal with or monitor pressure sores in elderly patients in the United States. Also, lack of awareness and adequate training among nurses is another issue that leads to the persistence of the issue. A lack of awareness leads to a knowledge gap between the occurrence and prevention of pressure sores. Knowledge gaps include the availability of limited literature on the factors such as using a specific medical technique, hospital diet, and incontinence (Getie et al., 2020).

Furthermore, pressure sores develop due to incorrect posturing of the patients by the nurses, which can be improved through proper training of the nurses (Getie et al., 2020). Henceforth, it can be said that there is limited literature available on pressure sores among the elderly population in the United States, which leads to an increase in the issue threatening the life of the patient. Therefore, this study has the potential to fill the gap through adequate research and understanding of the problem using precise research methods.

Purpose Statement

The purpose statements of BHA FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Research Problem and Purpose Statements mainly help focus on the scope, purpose, and direction to resolve an issue identified in the problem statement. Nevertheless, this paper provides insights and an understanding of pressure sores caused by a lack of movement among elderly patients, especially after surgery, using a detailed qualitative approach. The qualitative approach helps obtain exhaustive, comprehensive, and specific information about pressure sores as they relate to the patient’s activity (Getie et al., 2020). It will help in having a precise idea about the problem through semi-structured interviews with the target population.

The results of the interviews will help in understanding the problem in detail. Also, this method will help in exploring additional issues that patients face while being admitted to the hospital and require special attention. Henceforth, bedside nurses will be trained based on the results generated by the study and will be taught to utilize EBP in their daily life while dealing with patients. Likewise, patients will be informed to adopt self-monitoring techniques to avoid pressure sores or try light exercises (Getie et al., 2020).

The purpose statement works with the research and problem statement giving the reasoning about a particular health concern (Afzali Borojeny et al., 2020). Although identifying an underlying medical problem ensures improved medical care, the purpose statement is to put patients’ well-being first. In this case, nurses and other professional medical staff need to take the requisite steps to reduce the problem.

Relevant Data Collection Strategies

There are different types of qualitative data-collection methods available that healthcare researchers can use. As previously mentioned, selecting the correct method is essential for obtaining meaningful results. Patients’ safety is the top priority for individuals working in a healthcare facility. Hence, an adequate solution for the treatment of pressure sores will allow the medical staff to provide better services (Afzali Borojeny et al., 2020). One of the ways that the qualitative data from BHA FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Research Problem and Purpose Statements can be collected is by observing the patient twice a day and keeping track of any existing or developing pressure sores (Biller-Andorno et al., 2021).

Patients, especially elderly patients, should be kept under observation throughout their visit or stay in the hospital. The observations will be recorded through regular checkups before and after treatments, and short semi-structured interviews can be conducted to know the response of the patients. Additionally, the researchers can analyze any external risk factors contributing to the identified problem and handle it accordingly. The collected data will serve as a basis to further analyze the root cause of the problem and help in taking the required measures to solve it (Afzali Borojeny et al., 2020).

Scholarly and Respectful Communication in Healthcare

It is crucial to foster respectful communication in every working environment. Therefore, it is essential for healthcare professionals to communicate effectively with each other to provide adequate health services. Identifying and resolving a problem through proper collaboration and communication between professionals such as doctors and nurses is imperative. However, while conducting healthcare research, it is important to give credit to the researchers by citing scholarly articles.

If the collected data from BHA FPX 4010 Assessment 1 Research Problem and Purpose Statements is large, different experts are needed to observe accurate patterns from raw data to address the question (The Purpose of Risk Management in Healthcare | The Univ. of Scranton, 2021). The accuracy and precision of the information collected are essential for research. Also, the modification step will help in improving the strategies selected to resolve a health-related issue. It is important to gather valid and reliable data through teamwork and interprofessional communication.
