Scenario and Context 

In this presentation, I will discuss patient Jones, who was addicted to tobacco. He was smoking 6 to 7 cigarettes per day, which caused breathing issue and chest congestion. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), severely affecting his immune system. As per physician observation, Jones was at a higher risk of lung infection. So, I will discuss the plan devised to reduce the adverse effects of tobacco consumption. Furthermore, the Healthy People 2030 agenda is also discussed as the best evidence-based guide to reduce tobacco use among the US population (Nargis, 2021). I also included instruction sessions in the health promotion plan on using this approach to achieve the Healthy People 2030 and SMART goals.

Tobacco use is a significant contributor to the prevalence of chronic diseases. A successful health promotion plan can be developed and implemented to reduce the chronic diseases caused by smoking (Guo & Quan, 2020). These initiatives for health promotion raise awareness and encourage people who want to give up smoking. Public awareness initiatives help to discourage people from starting and also motivate those who are already smokers to quit their habit. A study shows that if people are aware of the risks associated with smoking, they will decide to quit (Guo & Quan, 2020).

The Plan Based on Specific, Identified Health Needs and Goals

The primary purpose of the health promotion plan was to give Jones the strategies he needed to improve his overall health and quality of life. The health promotion plan’s suggested approaches help patients quit smoking. Nurses play an essential role in educating the public about the health issues caused by tobacco use (Gallaway et al., 2019). Creating SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely) goals can help better identify and address the needs of the community in terms of health.

  3. Third SMART goal was that Jones attending counseling sessions every week (Nollen et al., 2020). 
  4. The fourths SMART goal was to quit bad company via family support. 

In the United States, tobacco use is increased among the young population due to multiple factors, such as unawareness of side effects (CDC, 2022). In order to improve the health of Jones, three primary goals were suggested. In the first goal, the patient adopted lifestyle modifications to quit smoking and manage side effects. In the second intervention, I provided education along with the medications, including awareness about the tobacco use and its side effects, its prevention programs, and necessary steps to prevent future involvement in the smoking habit. The final intervention was counseling sessions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT) to reduce the emotional impact of nicotine on the mind and regulate mental health (Nollen et al., 2020). 

The first stage of assisting a patient in quitting smoking entailed administering medications, establishing education programs, and listening to the patient’s concerns. Also, for those patients who desire to stop smoking, nicotine addiction makes it challenging for them. Those who want to quit smoking should be urged to try new procedures and change their lifestyle. Patients must also speak with a counselor to receive assistance with behavior modification (Erku & Tesfaye, 2019).

Educational Outcomes and the Attainment of Agreed-Upon Health Goals

In addition, studies show that smoking is the leading preventable cause of death. Programs are necessary to raise public awareness about the dangers of smoking (Sheffer et al., 2021). These programs have effectively reduced the risks of cardiovascular diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). An anti-smoking program will be helpful for those patients who are suffering from COPD. To minimize the harm, they need counseling. According to previous research, people of all ages suffer from smoking equally (Sheffer et al., 2021).

  • Weekly counseling sessions helped him to get confident and to quit smoking. He successfully attended the sessions and understood about smoking cessation via emotional support.
  • In the eight weeks of health promotion plan Jones successfully stopped smoking.  

Revision for Future Educational Sessions

It will be necessary to make continual efforts to integrate efficient and preventative programs into the school’s curriculum for learning and education. Anyone can participate in exercise and fitness activities; it is all possible with the help of Healthy People 2030. Healthy People 2030 will also help to provide access to medical professionals who can assist smokers in quitting (Patel & Chauhan, 2020). 

The main goals of Healthy People 2030 are as follows:

• Lowering adult tobacco usage to 11%

• Avoid breathing in tobacco smoke.

• Increase the number of places like parks and playgrounds where smoking is banned.

• Making counseling services easily accessible to those who want to quit smoking (Patel & Chauhan, 2020)

• To educate people about the risks associated with tobacco use, conduct successful media campaigns (Patel & Chauhan, 2020).

Tobacco has a severe negative effect on the community. Education of health professionals and clinical staff is necessary to lessen this impact. It is also necessary to raise funding to raise awareness about the harmful effect of smoking. Our entire program is built around the objectives of Healthy People 2030. The approach is confirmed to be carefully examined and modified as needed (Sheffer et al., 2021). 

Healthy People 2030 Agenda Influencing the Educational Sessions Outcomes

By having trained educators, clinicians, and counselors Healthy People 2030 aims to reduce the prevalence of these health issues in the population (Herrmann & Blackstone, 2022). The nurses should carefully track the SMART goals established for a patient’s counseling, and the treatment strategy must be developed according to defined goals. The agenda behind healthy 2030 is to reduce the rate of people encountering smoking-related illnesses, impairments, and mortality (Pierce, 2022). The healthcare plan for patient jones is aligned with objectives of Healthy people 2030.

Educational session was focused on awareness session and the goal of healthy people 2030 is also focused on educating people about the risks associated with tobacco use, conduct successful media campaigns (Patel & Chauhan, 2020). Healthy people 2030 focused on building new parks to help people engage in healthy activities and this educational session also focused on adopting healthy activities like 30 minutes daily exercise. At last the whole session enlightened the true picture of healthy people 2030 objectives (Health.gov, n.d.). 

Revisions

More changes are required to guarantee that upcoming educational sessions align with the Healthy People 2030 goals. There are still several restrictions on the current tobacco prevention strategies. These initiatives need to be modified. Updating educational seminars could decrease tobacco use among high school students (Guo & Quan, 2020). Those suffering from respiratory issues or other smoking-related illnesses may require special attention. To accommodate those patients, treatment facility requirements might be changed. As forms of support, counseling and other pharmacological therapies must be made available to people (Guo & Quan, 2020).
